Site Updates and Strange Fire Fox 3 Issues

Well, I’ve spent a considerable amount of time rewriting the site template to get rid of those tables in the original template. Normally I wouldn’t have problems with a site this simple, but I was always getting bizarre site renderings from the Mozilla duo FireFox and Flock. Flock, being mine main everyday browser,  made the choice to use tables even more perplexing.

After a number of rewrites, all with similar issues at similar points in the build process, I finally figured out the problem thanks to Fire Fox’s colorized source output. Fire Fox and Flock would drop several lines of XHTML when a line of code only consisted of a remark. What makes this bad in my case is that I have a tendancy to remark my pages right before polishing up the final build and breaking it apart, it was just plain weird that it was happening when the roughed out page should have been finished. Every other browser I tested the site on displayed perfectly fine, with no errors. So the new site template has no comments, but they were just there to speed up editing, so all is good.

The new site checks out on Fire Fox, Safari, Opera, IE, Flock, and a number of small device browsers. ( IE and Opera Mini in Windows Mobile 5 in particular. ) iPhone users, and anyone using some of the other exotic browsers, drop me a line if you have any issues.

Once I have this buttoned down, I’ll have some new tutorials out.

Thanks, BK

Tutorial Image Problems …

Thanks to Brad who let us know that there are some issues with site images during our transfer. I’m currently updating all of the tutorial images, but some of the older posts will be skipped. Thanks, BK

UPDATE: All of the drawing tutorials and movies have now been updated. I have also gone ahead with a slight, ok maybe major, site template change. I tried to keep the origionals look and feel, but I needed more layout space. I know this really hurts those 800×600 resolution guys, but it can’t be helped. I havn’t done a lot of small screen and device testing yet, so if you have any issues please post them back here if you can. I have done some pretty extensive testing on Opera, IE, Firefox, Safari, and Flock. If you look at the dreaded tables ( ewwww ) in the code, I did this to avoid having to write three diffrent versions of the website. Please forgive me. I kept Divs for content and it is validated XHTML :b

WSD Transfer Update …

I’ve been able to transfer most of the information over from White Sands correctly. We lost the main catagory structure in the process, but I think this will work better for us in the end. I’ve also been trying to update our links from other sites as I go. Some of these will come online shortly, some are already up and running. I still have not had time to transfer all of the user accounts at this time. I hope everyone is notified about the move. I may send an e-mail to the users that don’t make it. I have been changing some of the sites features around so there are still some glitches here and there, but service shouldn’t be interrupted at this point. If anyone finds any problems, let me know and I’ll get on them as soon as I can. Thanks, BK
