There are still a few usability issues here and there, but our standard site validation went well beyond expectations. ( considering that I only tested locally with IE FF and Opera on Windows ) I know, I know, I should validate better, but after coding for so many years, it’s rare to have a major problem show up after testing on these three browsers. However stranger things have happened.
The Results for Standard Browsers ( Typical OS Typical Screen Sizes) :
If you are still using IE 4.0 or earlier, or maybe even Dillo, you will experience some site viewing issues. You will be able to read the site, but of course there will be no CSS support. Other then browser support for transparent PNG files ( uh hmm IE ), everything else is pretty covered.
Connection speed testing. The site is a little on the pudgy side. I may make some changes to speed it up for those of you still using dial-up. You can always view the site with the images turned off in your browser settings. WSD page weight is about half images, so that should get you in the 30kb range which will load the page in about 3 secs on a 56k. BTW, you can turn Javascript support off as well, and still have access to all the content without issues.
Render testing: There was of course some render speed issues that had to be addressed with the tiled images. I tried to balance tile sizes with the images physical size to make the best balance. If you have issues let me know. We can always tweak this further.
Usability: Usability is something we’re striving for the most. Color blind friends should have no issues with the site. Text to speech software seems to work fine when testing with Opera, however viewing the site with the images turned off will present some navigation loss, but not total. It’s not really an issues of right or wrong, but a matter of a little extra code. I’ll get it fixed soon.
Small Devices: All this being said, I have not done any small screen testing yet. From the sites traffic profiles, it doesn’t seem like there are any major complications there either, but I want to do some extra testing just to make sure. Let me know if you see any issues with your handheld or cell. I can’t meet everyone’s needs, but I would like to keep the site at least legible for anyone to tries to access it.
Thanks …
